Experience Lake Michigan

Experience Lake Michigan

We are so fortunate to have a GREAT LAKE as our backyard! Locals and visitors alike love to walk, run, bike, sit, and drive along the lakefront to take in the picturesque sunrises, varying water colors, and the boats dotting the horizon. When the waves are especially impressive, watch for the parade of people along the lake angling for the best view!

Searching for beach glass, lounging on a beach, fishing, and boating are very popular activities. Sailing with Sail Away Charters, taking sailing lessons with the Kenosha Community Sailing Center, and fishing with the Kenosha Charter Boat Association are all possible ways to get out on the water. You can also bring your own kayak to enjoy the Lake Michigan Water Trail.

What if you don’t have your own kayak? That is where the Kenosha Community Sailing Center can help! In recent years, the organization has expanded from sailing lessons into rentalsof kayaks, stand up paddle boards, and duck-shaped pedal boats.  There are single, tandem, and fishing kayaks. The capacity of apedal boat is five people. Rentals are for 45 minutes, except the fishing kayak which is a three-hour rental. Paddles and life jackets are included.

You can even take your dog with you on the single or tandem kayak or pedal boat, for an additional fee. Dog life vests in a range of sizes are available or you can bring your own. Aharness style vest for dogs is strongly recommended.

The sailing center is located on Simmons Island, next to the Kenosha Yacht Club at 5130 4th Avenue. Reservations can be made online at www.kenoshasailing.org.kenoshasailing.org

Spending a gorgeous summer day on Lake Michigan with family or friends, as you get your exercise and Vitamin D … this is life by the lake!
